Get off your Derriere and Preach!

January 21, 2017

Recently, I heard a person in their later years say: that they hoped that God’s plan would start for their life very soon, because they had been waiting for it a long time.  For me, such a statement doesn’t even make sense.  God’s plan for our lives is laid out in scripture.  There are different ways for us to fulfill his call, but Jesus told us what to do in Matthew 28:18-20.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

We just need to get up and go.  When I first began preaching the gospel, it was really to anyone who would listen.  I prayed for people, and prophesied over people in coffee shops, restaurants and malls.  I didn’t have to have a platform or credentials in ministry to do this.  I have all of that now, but it didn't start that way.

I did go to Bible School when I was young and became a minister, but this really wasn’t why I have a ministry.  Jesus called me to collect a harvest of souls through a dream when I was sixteen years old.  My heart began to burn for souls.  I didn’t know how I was going to reach them but I began to try.

I was a forerunner in social media ministry.  As soon as Facebook started, I just began to share my thoughts of encouragement with anyone who was listening.  I began to prophesy over people in many countries.  Before you knew it, I was ministering to thousands of people on Facebook alone.  You can do this too.  God will open up the way before you, but you must be willing to take a step toward advancing your own ministry.  In my house, I have a sign on my wall that says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”  I have now been to seventeen nations to preach and have gone on almost one hundred missionary trips.  Each one began with one step of faith.  If I can do it, so can you.

The Lord might make suggestions, but he isn’t going to be the one that makes your feet to step out and go.  You have to make that decision.  You have to get off your couch, shut off the TV, and decide what it is you are going to do for Christ.

Each one of us has an opportunity to do great things for the Lord, but not all of us are going to do it.  The parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) is interesting, in that each person who was given gold by the land owner, had the opportunity to increase it. But the man who was given only one talent, just buried it in the sand.  When the landowner returned, the man was not excused for his ineptness and incapability.  He reported to his boss with excuses and judgement for his employer’s heart.  His talent was taken from him, and was instead given to the man who had increased his five talents by five more.  The man who did nothing and made excuses was thrown into darkness.

I believe that we do need to look into our lives and judge ourselves.  We need to ask God what it is he would have us do.  We must work for him.  We cannot afford to sit idly by during our lives, making excuses as to why we did not reach people all around us for Him. If we do not know what to do, or how to reach the world for the Lord, we have a helper called the Holy Spirit, (John 14:26) who will guide us into the things that God has prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).

If you don’t know how to minister in other places and other nations, then join with someone who does.  Many ministers go into foreign lands.  Most would be willing to bring you with them and teach you how it is done.  And never mind only going to foreign lands. Many ministers go to the streets of your own cities to feed the poor, and lead people to Christ.  I am sure that they would be more than willing to have you help them.  In my own ministry, I have helped dozens of people step into their destiny, by just having them come along with me.  God will open up a way, but you have to be a part of it.

Stop burying your talents with excuses.  You will not have an excuse that will satisfy the Lord.  I want to appear before him and hear him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21).”  My entire motivation is to appear before him in Zion and receive my reward.  I don’t want to be a man with one talent; but I want to be a man who multiplies many talents.

If that is your prayer, (and I pray that it is), then may God touch you today. May you begin to move in ways that you have never moved in before.  May God appear to you, and speak to you.  May he open up your ears to hear more clearly, and may he baptize you with a Holy Boldness to speak the gospel message - in a way that will set nations on fire.  You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). After all, Christ is in you, the Hope of Glory.
