The Power of Signs and Wonders

Acts 2:22

“Men of Israel, these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know”

God is so good and I have seen many miracles, signs and wonders throughout my life.  I have seen so many that I can’t remember them all.

Miracles have a purpose.  They are not just nice little occurences but they serve God’s greater plan.  God uses miracles to show who He is and who Jesus is.  This passage in Acts says that miracles, wonders and signs show people that Jesus is who God says he is.

At the name of Jesus mighty things happen.  At the name of Jesus people are healed, delivered and set free.  People experience provision miracles, healing miracles.  God speaks to them in dreams and visions.  These things happen to strengthen their faith in who Christ is.  From the beginning of time God has always intervened in Humanity.  It gives credence to His message.  He blesses those who accept His message.

A miracle strenghens a person’s belief in God.  When I personally encounter a miracle I am awed.  I will give you an example.  The knowledge of God’s mind is something that I want to be aware of.  I want to hear Him thinking.  I want His voice inside of me, guiding me, leading me and giving me hope.  When I first got saved I was at church one evening sitting in a pew and there was a bible in that pew, so I picked it up and randomly opened it to Isaiah 61:1-3 which says,

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”

This is a wonderful passage, but I don’t think it would have entered my spirit in such a powerful way if it weren’t for what else that happened that night.  As I was sitting there reading, my sister came from the other side of the church and for some reason she said to me, “Darren I want to share with you one of my favorite scriptures in the bible,” and then she proceeded to read the same passage to me Isaiah 61.

As a random occurrence this seemed impossible to me.  I felt in my heart that God was speaking.  It was a sign and a wonder to me that God had a mission for my life to preach the gospel.  We laughed together and knew that God was with us.  This would have been enough but then something else happened that night.  There was a Korean pastor that use to fellowship with us in that church.  As we were still laughing at what God did she went up to the pastor and she asked him if she could share what God was speaking in her heart.  She then opened the bible to Isaiah 61 and began to read the exact same passage again.  This all happened within a few minutes of me opening the bible.  It was fast and I knew it was God.

You can’t forget these things.  I knew that God was speaking.  I knew that He was real.  The chances of three people getting the same passage in the same timeframe is very low.  As and educated man with an understanding of statistics and probabilities I knew this a miracle.  It was God and it was a sign that made me wonder.  He was speaking to me and leading me.

It wasn’t just that I knew God was real I knew that Jesus was real because I had just started worshipping Him.  As I think of those early days of my salvation I miss them.  It was all so new to me.  I was in my 30’s and had never encountered such things in my life before.  It was an exciting time in my life knowing that God saw me and knew me and spoke.

Now I am use to hearing Him speak.  It is still wonderful, but not as surprising.  He speaks and I listen to the best of my ability.  His word is so powerful.  It will guide you into all that you need and show you what to do in your life.

I wouldn’t want to serve a God who couldn’t show me miracles.  I want to know He is there and Jesus is certainly there.  The bible says, “Seek me and you shall find me when you seek me with you entire heart (Jeremiah 29:13).”  That is the cost to see miracles.  Be like the woman who pressed through the crowd to experience healing.  Push into the presence.  You will not be disappointed.

Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and uunsearchable things, which you do not know.”  I believe that signs and wonders is simply hearing God speak in many ways.  The impossible becomes possible.  He does great and mighty things.  You see his power over your life.  You see him heal, deliver, teach and provide.

I pray for you today that you will experience the abundance of who God is.  May all your questions be answered.  May you hear His voice and may you fall in love with this great God of mine.
